Stand Upon
A new tune from While I Have Being.
← Played on Doc’s Banjos #150
The Story
This, my fifth solo banjo composition, was written during January and February of 2011, when my good friend, Patrick “Doc” Huff, generously lent me #147, a recently completed banjo featuring his newly mastered “scalloped” fingerboard. This wonderful fingerboard design marries the ease of play and accuracy of intonation intrinsic to a fretted banjo with much of the unique sonic virtue inherent to a fretless. The influence of the scalloped neck on tone is most prevalent when sliding between notes on one string, which happens frequently in this particular piece.
Pat later built me banjo #150, a true masterpiece instrument featuring a similar “scalloped” fingerboard (in addition to a host of other innovations). #150 is featured on several tunes on the album including this one, “Stand Upon”.
